CTV News reports that Kazoleas is from Drayton Valley, Alta. According to Donna Kazoleas, her niece has been travelling overseas since September. "She doesn't smoke, she doesn't drink, she does volunteer work to help, and she does very well in school".

A lawyer for 10 foreigners charged with producing pornography said his clients were not criminals but simply failed to understand Cambodian culture.

Following their arrests, Cambodian police posted images of mostly clothed people on what looks to be a dance floor with each other, but they failed to provide any details about when the photos were taken and who the individuals were.

The mother of one of the detained tourists said they are all "scared out of their brains" and have been forced to sign documents written in a foreign language with no translator, The Sun reported.

Still, there is "enough evidence to prove that they violated the law, and therefore, they must face charges", Siem Reap provincial court prosecutor Samrith Sokhon said.

Police also released photos that show pairs simulating various sexual positions at a party, but the origin of the images is unclear and many in them do not appear in the line-up also posted by authorities. They were charged with "producing pornographic pictures" by the cops.

The group, which includes at least five United Kingdom nationals, as well as two Canadians, a Norwegian and a New Zealander, is accused of "preparing pornographic materials", a charge which could see them face up to a year in jail if found guilty.

The scandal began when Cambodian authorities arrested almost 90 foreigners during a party at a rented villa in Siem Reap near the Angkor Wat temple complex, according to CBC. They all have their clothes on except for a few shirtless men who can be seen straddling some women.

He said their activities were against "our tradition" and noted Siem Reap's proximity to Angkor Wat, which in addition to being Cambodia's most popular tourist site is also considered sacred.

A Facebook page for Let's Get Wet parties in Siem Reap advertised what it billed as "Asia's biggest pool crawl".

It is not the first time young travelers have gotten in hot water in Cambodia. When caught, they have been expelled from the country.
