Riyad Mahrez hands in transfer request as Manchester City make £50m bid

Grant SmithJan 31, 2018

Sky Sports claim that City have already made two bids - with the latter in excess of £50m - for Mahrez, but reports including the Telegraph claim that Leicester are likely to dismiss bids under £90m for the 26-year-old Algeria global.

However, that figure falls far short of Leicester's valuation.

Pep Guardiola, the City head coach, confirmed this afternoon that Sané would be out for between six to seven weeks as a result of the unsafe challenge from Joe Bennett, the Cardiff City defender, during Sunday's FA Cup fourth-round tie in Wales.

Even if City can't get the deal done this week, they are hoping to get an early deal tied up for him - so will sign a pre-contract deal if they need to.

With Brazil forward Gabriel Jesus already injured, Guardiola feels his attacking options are too stretched and that Mahrez would fill them.

He asked to leave Leicester last May.

The winger has been linked with leaving the King Power Stadium ever since helping to lead Leicester to the Premier League title back in 2016, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona all having been linked however, for some reason, no club have taken the plunge to sign the Algerian. However, standing in Mahrez's way could be Claude Puel and the club management (again), who won't want to lose their main man just a day before the transfer window closes without a replacement.

'It is always the same thing, my response is the same.

'We can see in his performances in the games.

Mahrez joined Leicester from French club Le Havre for a reported £400,000 in 2014.
