Harry Maguire: 'We want Riyad Mahrez back'

Grant SmithFeb 05, 2018

A Mahrez performance reminiscent of the one he delivered when Leicester ran riot in a 3-1 win two years ago, propelling them towards the title, could go a long way towards convincing City he remains the man they want for next season.

The Algerian midfielder is unhappy at the Premier League club's refusal to sanction a deadline-day move to Manchester City and was also omitted from the team for Wednesday's 2-1 defeat at Everton. I think it's important that we stay united about this situation.

The whole situation leaves Mahrez in a very hard position. It's a tough situation for us to manage after this transfer window'. Like professionals, we have to keep our focus. "I hope he can come back quickly with us, and with a smile and happy to play with us".

'I understand his disappointment.

'Even now, when Leicester look at the bigger picture, surely they will have to concede that Riyad Mahrez has been an unbelievably good player for them... but it's time to let him fulfil his potential'.

"We created lots of chances with quality and good combinations, a good understanding".

"What he needs to do, is what he did in the summer - come back in, get back involved with the dressing room again, show the ability he has got which got the bids and interest from Manchester City".

Mahrez was desperate to force through a transfer to Manchester City and is not believed to be in the right frame of mind after the deal collapsed.

The Foxes were left in the dark by Mahrez's absence ahead of the trip to Goodison Park.

Swansea City - Fabianski; Naughton, van der Hoorn, Fernandez, Mawson, Olsson; Dyer, Fer, Ki; Clucas, J. Ayew.

City's best bid for the former PFA Player of the Year was a cash-plus-player swap at £50m.

Leicester boss Claude Puel can relate to having an impact on a struggling club.

He might not feel the need to rush back, particularly as Algeria surprisingly failed to reach the World Cup finals, but Mahrez would do well to follow Philippe Coutinho's lead in the second half of the season.
