At least 30 civilians dead in govt airstrikes in Ghouta

Dr Mohammad Tannari, head of Sarmin Medical Centre in Syria's southeastern Idlib province, said previous United Nations efforts into chemical attack allegations proved fruitless.

The military said the soldier was killed late Monday by a mortar-and-rocket attack that also wounded five Turkish soldiers and a civilian military contractor.

In May previous year, Russia, Iran and Turkey signed an agreement to set up de-escalation centres, in order to reduce violence and airstrikes in some parts of Syria.

A convoy of the Turkish Armed Forces moved to the fourth observation point in Idlib to keep track of the situation and sustain the current cease-fire in the de-escalation zones, deliver aid and ensure the secure return of local people, Sputnik reported.

Iran is a key supporter of Syrian President Bashar Assad and Tehran acknowledges that its forces are in Syria, in an advisory role to the government.

Turkey and Russian Federation have no disagreements over Ankara's air and ground offensive into northern Syria's Afrin region and the two countries are in close contact over the operation, the Turkish foreign minister said on Tuesday.

In Idlib, another one of the remaning opposition-held areas under relentless bombardment, at least three more civilians were killed by airstrikes, according to sources from the White Helmets.

The military also said only terror targets are being destroyed and that "utmost importance and sensitivity" is being put on avoiding harming civilians. Al-Qaida-linked militants said they downed the Su-25 in Idlib on Saturday by a portable air defence missile. Russian officials say the pilot engaged in a gunbattle with militants before blowing himself up with a hand grenade.

Iran urged Turkey Monday to stop its two-week-old military offensive against the Kurdish YPG in northern Syria's Afrin region, which abuts Idlib.

The UN statement comes the day after the US State Department said it was "gravely alarmed" by allegations that Syrian forces conducted chemical attacks.

She again rejected Moscow's proposed resolution to replace the JIM, saying it ignores the JIM's findings - "an investigation that Russian Federation supported until the investigators found the Assad regime to be responsible".
