Met Éireann has released a Yellow weather warning for the entire country

The yellow warning in in place from midnight until midday tomorrow, with fears thar roads and pavements could become risky as the snow and ice moves in.

Scattered snow showers are forecast for Thursday night and Friday morning, with accumulations of snow less than 3cm.

The warning says that heavy sleet, snow showers and even hail will follow the initial spell of heavy rain and snow which will be heaviest on higher ground.

Friday morning will bring ice to the capital, the Met Office has warned, with temperatures set to drop overnight.

"The warning has been updated to extend it further south and east, whilst delaying the start time to midnight".

Thursday night will be colder and showery conditions will extend to all areas.

Frost and ice will form widely inland as temperatures fall to between +1 and minus 3 degrees. However, the showers look set to turn back to rain later in the day. "It will be a cold day with top temperatures of just 4 to 6C in moderate to fresh west to northwesterly winds which will back west to southwest and ease".

The UK is braced for more wintry conditions with snow and ice warnings issued for many parts of the country.
