Anger in home village as girls remain missing after Boko Haram kidnapping

Lynette PayneFeb 26, 2018

There might be up to 105 schoolgirls taken away by terror group Boko Haram after an all-girl college was attacked Monday in Nigeria's northeastern state of Yobe, parents of the missing students alleged Saturday, citing an evidence.

"There was not any justification whatsoever to withdraw the military from that place, knowing fully well that there is a girls' school there with about 900 of them and it's a local government headquarters".

But locals in the remote town of Dapchi, in Yobe state, said they had been left vulnerable to attack because soldiers had been withdrawn in the last few weeks.

"We have now established that the information we relied on to make the statement was not credible", it said.

"Fact is that President Buhari is presiding over the worse form of corruption in the history of Nigeria and the good thing is that despite their propaganda, they have not been able hide the rot in their government from the eagle eyes of worldwide organisations like the Transparency global.

We will go as far as meeting President Buhari". Though many students later turned up at their parents' houses, it became clear that over a hundred were missing.

Nigerian authorities at the time denied and played down the Chibok kidnapping, as they have done for more recent abductions.

The party also berated the Buhari-led government for what it called an attempt to suppress information on the Dapchi saga, adding that the development rendered rescue mission hard, thus compounding the woes of the families of the missing girls.

Alhaji Makinta Liman, father of three girls abducted alongside other girls, accused the governor and the Nigerian Army of being careless about the safety and wellbeing of Nigerian children, especially those under their watch. "Now the story has changed", said Ali Yari.

At that point, some parents broke down in tears, some even collapsed and before you knew it, the atmosphere was chaotic.

In the case of Dapchi, government does not want to believe that the kids were kidnapped by Boko Haram.

That abduction sparked a worldwide outrage and triggered formation of the Bring Back Our Girls movement.

Anger has been growing among parents about the government's handling of the incident, which has revived memories of the Chibok schoolgirl abduction four years ago.

And it is unclear how many are missing.

More importantly, do we have a new set of girls in the hands of these blood thirsty men or are they waiting out for some stability in the surrounding bushes they reportedly ran into during the attack? The militia horrified the world when it abducted 276 girls from a boarding school in Chibok nearly four years ago.

"His Excellency Governor Gaidam has also directed education ministry officials and the school administration to work closely with the security agencies to establish the actual number of the girls that are still unaccounted for", the statement concludes.

Earlier this week Buhari sent security forces and a ministerial team to the area.
