Damian Lillard after Portland Trail Blazers beat Warriors: We're the real deal

Grant SmithMar 11, 2018

Without Stephen Curry, Durant had plenty of responsibilities on his shoulder as the Warriors tried to win their eighth consecutive game.

The undermanned Warriors gave everything they had against the surging Blazers, but answers at key stretches in the game simply weren't there for the defending champions.

Having been eliminated from the postseason by the men from the Bay Area in the last two seasons, Portland is proving that they can finally be a match for them and have sent out a strong statement in their two straight victories over them.

The Blazers won, 125-108, despite the Warriors climbing from 15 points down to take a lead in the third quarter.

The dynamic point guard once again took over the game in the fourth quarter and led an outburst in the final period which saw them outscore their opponents 38-25.

After Golden State's Klay Thompson connected on a short jump shot to pull the Warriors within 92-91 early in the 4th quarter, Portland produced a 12-2 scoring run to push their lead to double-digits and the Warriors wouldn't get the deficit below 7 points the rest of the way.

Damian Lillard had 28 and eight assists.

LeBron James scored 25 points with 10 rebounds and 6 assists for Cleveland, whose lead over Washington and IN for 3rd place IN the East is now just half a game. Meanwhile, Durant had a monster game with 40 points, six rebounds, six assists, and two blocks.

The good news for Golden State: The Rockets had their recent winning streak snapped at 17 Friday in Toronto. They have vaulted to third place in a competitive Western Conference.
