The moves comes hours after of engine failure was reported on an A-320 Neo when an IndiGo aircraft took off from Ahmedabad for Lucknow on Monday.

The pilot of flight 6E-244 was forced to turn back a little over 40 minutes after takeoff, making an emergency landing at 10.04am in Ahmedabad.

According to reports, eight aircraft operated by India's biggest low-priced carrier- IndiGo that is owned by InterGlobe Aviation while three aircrafts are operated by its rival GoAir.

Earlier, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) had issued an emergency airworthiness directive for A-320 Neos fitted with PW1100 engines (from serial number 450 and beyond).

After DGCA's regulations, the IndiGo airlines have ascertained that none of these affected engines shall be operated by IndiGo.

According to a senior DGCA official, of the 11 planes to be grounded, eight are operated by IndiGo and three by GoAir. The DGCA has ordered these airlines not to refit these engines which are spare with them in their inventory.

It said it will be in touch with stakeholders and review the situation in due course and when the issue is addressed by European regulator EASA and P&W.

Pratt & Whitney said it's working closely with customers to minimize disruption and has begun to deliver engines with an "upgraded configuration", Bloomberg said.

Indigo said it was in receipt of the DGCA communication and would promptly comply with the same. "We are working to mitigate the AOG (aircraft on ground) situation by the end of the second quarter".

The directive followed instances of the engines shut-down during flights and rejected take-offs involving the A320 neo family aircraft. "The affected passengers will be accommodated on other flights on our network", an IndiGo spokesperson said.

Out of them, 32 are with IndiGo and 13 are with GoAir. "We have complied immediately", a GoAir spokesperson said.
