Jammu and Kashmir: Three militants killed, restrictions imposed in parts of Srinagar

Massive clashes were reported from Anantnag district against the killings of three militants in a gunfight with the government forces earlier today.

The decision has been taken in the aftermath of Anantnag gunfight which resulted in the killing of three militants. At around 12:30 am, "pursuing credible leads of the presence of militants" in Anantnag's Hakoora village, a search operation was held, which led to an exchange of gunshots between the forces and the militants, police spokesman said.

"The identity of the third militant is yet to be ascertained", the officer said. The fire was retaliated by the security forces ensuring an encounter.

A top police source said that TuM has a strength of only four militants and that Fazli was in touch with its commander Dawood Mir, of HMT area of Srinagar, before he joined militancy.

As a precautionary measure Schools and colleges have been closed in the area, said an official.

Heavy contingents of police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deployed in the area fired several tear-gas shells to disperse the protesters, triggering further clashes.

Train services resumed while some schools and colleges remained closed in Pulwama and Srinagar.

Pro-Kashmir independence political leaders Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have been placed under house arrest.

The university of Kashmir has also chose to suspend all classwork and postpone all scheduled exams.
