President Trump says he's 'very happy' with existing legal team

Howard TerryMar 26, 2018

Just last week, Trump moved to add Joseph diGenova, a former US attorney who has been highly critical of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice (DOJ), to his legal team, but on Sunday, the New York Times reported that the plan had been scuttled because of perceived conflicts of interest.

"The President is disappointed that conflicts prevent Joe diGenova and Victoria Toensing from joining the President's Special Counsel legal team", Jay Sekulow, counsel to the president, said in a statement.

The president's comments were reminiscent of his remarks earlier this month in response to claims of staff unhappiness that "everybody wants to work in the White House".

Sekulow said last week that diGenova's addition to the legal team was subject to an "ongoing process of conflict review" as is standard ethics practice for lawyers. DiGenova, who provided the statement to The Associated Press, declined to answer additional questions about the nature of his and Toensing's representation of the president.

The upheaval on the legal team comes at a critical time for Mr. Trump. Since then, the president has struggled to find top-notch defence lawyers willing to represent him, The Washington Post reported last week.

"Fame & fortune will NEVER be turned down by a lawyer, though some are conflicted", Trump continued in a pair of tweets on the subject.

It was just four days ago that the president's top attorney, John Dowd - the man who was negotiating a potential interview with Mueller - quit.

Added Trump: "I am very happy with my existing" attorney team.

He notes that "many lawyers and top law firms want to represent me in the Russian Federation case". Corallo reportedly told investigators he was anxious that the president's aide, Hope Hicks, was trying to obstruct justice when she crafted a statement describing a meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer - a key focus of the probe.

"Besides, there was NO COLLUSION with Russian Federation, except by Crooked Hillary and the Dems!" he concluded. -Mexican border to thwart illegal immigration, but had to settle for $1.6 billion.

Looking on the bright side on Sunday, the president said that "much can be done with the $1.6 billion given to building and fixing the border wall". Work will start immediately.

Trump said with $700 billion in funding for defense, "many jobs are created and our Military is again rich. Building a great Border Wall, with drugs (poison) and enemy combatants pouring into our Country, is all about National Defense".
