Mofaz: Bolton wanted Israel to attack Iran

Lynette PayneMar 28, 2018

A senior Iranian official said on Sunday it was "shameful" that US President Donald Trump had named John Bolton as national security adviser because of his ties with rebels whom Iran sees as "terrorists", the state news agency IRNA reported.

The group, which calls itself the National Coalition to Prevent an Iranian Nuclear Weapon, includes nearly 50 retired military officers and over 30 former ambassadors, along with former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former Secretary of Defense William Perry, and former Director of the National Security Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency Michael Hayden.

The report did not indicate that he provided any evidence of his claim, and MEK denied that it has funded Bolton or any other USA official. He did not provide evidence.

In Paris, the group's spokesman Shahin Ghobadi said in response to the Iranian official's statement that "the notion that the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran has funded ambassador Bolton or any other American officials is simply a lie and is a mere joke".

Trump announced on March 22 that Bolton would take over from H.R. McMaster as national-security adviser beginning on April 9.

They say it severely limits Iran's nuclear development under global monitoring, and point out that United States allies in Europe oppose scrapping the deal.

Bolton, an outspoken advocate of military action who served in the administration of former United States president George W. Bush, has called for action against Iran and North Korea.

His views on Iran appear to be in line with those of Trump, who has adopted a tough stance against Tehran since taking office in January 2017.

Israel's ex-defence chief doesn't think this was "smart".
