Huawei P20 Pro Officially Revealed With Triple Cameras On Its Back

In Australia the Company is also under a security cloud and is struggling to hold onto distribution contracts.

The Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS is the latest Porsche Design device, an upgraded Mate 10 Pro with a few surprises thrown in. It's not known whether these models will be released in Australia with press releases syndicated locally failing to reveal pricing or retailers where the devices can be purchased.

By now, it's a given that the Huawei P20 Pro will be packing a triple camera on the back - just when you got used to the idea of dual camera smartphones. The front camera comes with facial enhancement features.

What you don't get is microSD however.

While this is impressive, the P20 Pro takes it up a huge step: its Leica triple-camera system consists of a whopping 40MP RGB sensor, a 20MP monochrome shooter, and an 8MP optically stabilised telephoto camera. In two big markets - Italy and Spain - Huawei now ships more phones than Apple is closing in on Samsung, according to market research firm Counterpoint.

While this Porsche Design handset is unashamedly expensive, you are getting a phone that's more advanced that Huawei's regular handset: it has that hugely advanced camera system, it has a premium display and design, and it has that new-fangled in-screen fingerprint sensor, as well as powerful and up-to-date hardware. The sensors have the aperture sizes of f/1.6 and f/1.8.

The other unique thing that Huawei has brought with the phones is the color options.

The second element is an 8-megapixel f/2.4 camera offering 3x optical zoom, which is also optically stabilised.

The Huawei P20 Pro's screen is an OLED panel, boasting high levels of contrast and color fidelity.

The Pro houses Huawei's Kirin 970 processor, which enables artificial intelligence computing to be done on the phone itself, as well as in the cloud - greatly increasing processing speed and power. Both smartphones are said to be immediately available globally, but we can expect more details on this front in the near future.

There's also one very interesting feature worth pointing out here: Huawei AIS, which stands for AI image stabilisation.

It offers 6GB of RAM and comes in 256GB and 512GB storage variants.

The P20 Pro's battery is a 4,000mAh cell, which ought to easily last you a day, possibly two with conservative use. A Kirin 970 processor, 6GB of RAM and a colossal 4,000mAh battery keep everything ticking along admirably backstage, but really it's the camera tech that'll make the P20 Pro a headline-grabber when it launches next month.

There are two colours available for the Mate RS - black and red - although early information suggests that red will only be available in China, so tuck your credit card away a while longer. The gradient effect is only available for the P20 and P20 Pro. The 2,240-by-1,080 display comes to 407 pixels per inch (ppi).

"We are comparing to iPhone X because people say it is the best phone". In the phone's settings, users can shorten the height of the screen so that the upper portion of the display is blacked out, making the notch "disappear".

It's the company's new flagship replacing February 2017's Huawei P10 series, and features a complete aesthetic rethink. The face unlock feature on the phones use 2-D mapping to authenticate users and take only a half second.

The feature works at 5x zoom also, which is a bit impressive.
