Matt Barber: Jesus Was 'Advocating For The Second Amendment'

Nichole VegaMar 31, 2018

In his New York Times op-ed Tuesday, Stevens noted that for the first 200 years of the Second Amendment's lifespan, it "was uniformly understood as not placing any limit on either federal or state authority to enact gun control legislation".

Stevens said the decision in that case, District of Columbia v. Heller, "has provided the N.R.A. with a propaganda weapon of enormous power".

"That decision - which I remain convinced was wrong and certainly was debatable - has provided the (National Rifle Association) with a propaganda weapon of vast power", wrote Stevens, who served from 1975 until he retired in 2010.

But gun-safety reform favored by those of us in Moms Demand Action does not call for Second Amendment repeal.

In his essay, the former justice embraced legislation that would ban semiautomatic weapons, increase the minimum age for buying a gun from 18 to 21 years old, and establish a "more comprehensive" background check system on all purchases of firearms.

But Stevens called on demonstrators to "seek more effective and more lasting reform".

The former justice argued that repealing the Second Amendment would "weaken the N.R.A.'s ability to stymie legislative debate and block constructive gun control legislation than any other available option".

In order to change the Constitution the amendment needs a 2/3 vote in both the House and the Senate and if it does get through the proposal stage, it must be ratified by 3/4 of the states.

President Donald Trump gave even more attention to the issue when he responded to Stevens on Twitter.

Anti-LGBTQ activist Matt Barber told American Family Radio listeners yesterday that the "uninfringeable constitutional right" to carry firearms is "as biblical as a shepherd boy's slingshot" and claimed that Jesus Christ advocated for the Second Amendment. "We need more Republicans in 2018 and must ALWAYS hold the Supreme Court!".
