SpaceX launches cargo to space station using recycled rocket, spaceship

At 4:30 p.m., the previously flown rocket is expected to leap off the pad at Launch Complex 40 into 80 percent "go" conditions, though the presence of cumulus clouds and the possibility of flight through precipitation were cited as concerns, according to News 6 partner Florida Today.

Both Falcon 9 and the Dragon spacecraft for the CRS-14 mission are flight-proven.

The launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying a Dragon capsule to the International Space Station has been scheduled to liftoff at 4:30 p.m. If the liftoff is delayed for any reason, another launch window open Tuesday at 4:08 pm (2008 GMT).

Aboard the Dragon spacecraft, which was launched into space on April 8, 2016, will be roughly 5,800 pounds of cargo.

But unlike previous CRS missions where SpaceX landed boosters back at Cape Canaveral, CRS-14 will not include a local recovery and instead focus on providing data as part of an expendable "demonstration mission".

The launch comes quickly on the heels of SpaceX's most-recent mission, which sent 10 small satellites into orbit on Saturday.

"After a dreary couple days in Central Florida, I'm happy to report we have some sunshine outside now", said Mike McAleenan, a launch weather officer with the 45th Weather Squadron.

The Atmosphere-Space Interactions Monitor, an Earth observatory that will study severe thunderstorms and their role in the Earth's atmosphere and climate.

SpaceX will not attempt to land the tall portion of the rocket, known as the booster or first stage, after launch, she said.
