Fourteen people killed in Canada hockey team bus crash

The victims have not yet been identified and authorities have not confirmed whether those killed were players or coaches.

He says the family is seeking solace in one another.

The RCMP corrected numbers early Saturday. Police had previously said there were 28 on the bus. Three are in critical condition.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the accident took place Friday evening on Highway 35, about 19 miles north of Tisdale.

The Broncos play in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, an under-20 youth league that regularly produces NHL players.

'It's a awful accident, my God, ' Hawks executive Darren Opp said in remarks reported by CTV. "It's very, very bad".

In 1986, four members of the Swift Current Broncos were killed while the team was on their way from Swift Current to Regina, and Sheldon Kennedy, former National Hockey League star turned child advocate, says he can still remember the scene vividly and offered his condolences to the Broncos players, loved ones and family members.

"And they came back", he said.

'Some of the families have gotten information and have gone to be with their kids. As the calls were coming in and they were talking about all the kids they've coached over the years that are playing on that team, I can't even imagine being a parent or the wife or the kids at home and going through something like this.

Kevin Henry, a coach who runs a hockey school in Prince Albert, said people were in shock.

It is a horrific tragedy that has sent shockwaves through the hockey community.

"Words can not describe the sadness in our community tonight", he said. First responders are on the scene doing everything possible to help.

"Tonight, we all must pray for these families". A 1986 crash outside of Swift Current killed four junior hockey players.

A GoFundMe campaign for the team has been set up and has already raised more than $176,000 as of Saturday morning.

He says he was shocked to hear about the crash that still "doesn't even seem real".
