Don't leave Syria in the hands of Trump alone

Donald Trump has warned military action is imminent in Syria, declaring missiles "will be coming". "Get ready Russian Federation, because they will be coming, nice and new and 'smart!' You shouldn't be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it", tweeted Mr Trump.

This image released Sunday, April 8, 2018 by the Syrian Civil Defense White Helmets, shows a child receiving oxygen through respirators following an alleged poison gas attack in the rebel-held town of Douma, near Damascus, Syria.

A Downing Street spokesperson said: "They agreed that reports of a chemical weapons attack in Syria were utterly reprehensible and if confirmed, represented further evidence of the Assad regime's appalling cruelty against its own people and total disregard for its legal obligations not to use these weapons".

His most recent warning on Twitter early Wednesday said Russian Federation threatened to shoot down USA missiles fired at Syria.

Trump has said he plans to make the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad, and perhaps his Russian and Iranian backers, pay a "big" price for the latest alleged toxic gas atrocity in the war-wracked country. He said that if airstrikes came, they would target Syrian government chemical facilities. "Rather than go deep into Douma and get bloodied badly, a chemical weapons attack was used to sow terror among the population from which Jaish al-Islam draws support", Syria analyst Nick Heras said.

The drama at the United Nations came as night fell on Damascus and the long-suffering Syrian population braced for the diplomatic dance to transform into new round of worldwide military action.

The UN Security Council has failed to adopt two competing resolutions that would have established a mechanism to investigate use of chemical weapons in Syria as well as another concerning a fact-finding mission in the war-torn country.

As tensions escalate over possible US -led military reprisals for the suspected attack, the UN's most powerful body remained paralyzed, unable to overcome its deep divisions that have shown during the seven years of conflict in Syria. Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Facebook that "smart" missiles would destroy any evidence of a suspected chemical weapons attack.

Also, the Navy said the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier and its strike group will depart Norfolk, Virginia, on Wednesday for a regularly scheduled deployment to Europe.

Russian Federation and Bolivia on Tuesday vetoed a US -drafted United Nations resolution that would have condemned the suspected chemical attack and set up a new body to determine responsibility for chemical attacks in Syria.

Donald Trump has chose to cancel his planned tour to Latin America later this week to focus instead on targeting Syria's President in responding to the poison gas attack.

The Damascus regime and key ally Russian Federation have both rejected any use of toxic substances as "fabrications".

It seems the U.S. and its allies may be preparing for a military strike. Moscow has cautioned the USA not to launch a military attack.

UN Secretary-General spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters on Tuesday that the OPCW needs complete access to the site of the chemical attack to determine who is responsible.
