Fitbit gets quick replies and menstrual cycle tracking

There are plenty of great smartwatches and fitness trackers out there, and the two newest offerings from Fitbit may have recently caught your attention.

The "female health tracking" tool, available through the Fitbit app on the compatible smartwatches, will roll out this month.

With the new feature, all Fitbit users age 13 and older will be able to log menstrual cycles, track symptoms, and receive notifications before the period start date.

A new text response feature is available immediately to users on the Android app.

Ironically, while quick replies are only accessible to Fitbit users connecting their wearables to Android phones, menstrual cycle supervision is rolling out to iOS and Windows apps first, expanding to Android by the end of the month. Fitbit's proprietary cycle algorithm gets smarter and more accurate as you consistently log your period. "With these apps and clock faces, we continue to deliver on our promise to bring important health information to the wrist", said James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit.

In March, Fitbit officially unveiled the Fitbit Versa - a product it calls a "smartwatch for all".

When you receive a message through WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Slack, or any other messaging app on your watch, just click on the notification to expand it. Scroll down to the bottom, tap Reply, and you can choose from five different pre-set messages or scroll over to the emoji tab, as pictured above.

All of your data in one place: View holistic data to reveal connections between your cycle and other stats in the Fitbit app, such as activity, sleep, and weight trends. The app also offers an educational aspect, providing access to the Fitbit blog where women can learn about fertility, ovulation, the menstrual cycle, and common misunderstandings.

The Fitbit App Gallery has over 700 apps and clock faces, as of Versa's launch.

To unleash the new features, users must first update to the latest version of the app from their phone. There, you can see where you are in your cycle, when your next period is expected and check your estimated fertile windows. Some of the new apps include Dexcom, an app that provides glucose readings, Sickweather, an app that scans social media for indicators of illness, and Go365, an app that tracks a user's wellness and rewards them for making healthy choices.
