Pakistani terrorists carried out 26/11 Mumbai attacks, admits former PM Nawaz Sharif

Howard TerryMay 14, 2018

An admission of sorts also came in for the first time from Sharif on the power the military and various anti-India groups hold in his country.

In an exclusive interview to English daily Dawn's Cyril Almeida that appeared on Saturday, Sharif was asked about the reasons for his ouster.

"Militant organizations are active". Explain it to me.

"We always maintained that Pakistan is behind terror attacks here (in Mumbai)". He said that an act of revenge in the name of accountability is not acceptable. He said Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have already said that it is unacceptable to allow non-state actors to cross the border and commit terrorism. There is no other way. "We must look into it", he said in an interview to Pakistan's leading newspaper, Dawn.

Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed is the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack in which 166 people were killed.

Several publications in India as well as the current affairs shows across the border gave extraordinary coverage to the statement. The country's continuous denials of its role in the 26/ 11 attacks have been punctured by its disgraced and ousted PM, Nawaz Sharif.

The application states that the controversial press release was issued in a move to defame the former prime minister, adding that the State Bank of Pakistan had earlier refuted the allegations.

Sharif, known for his pro-India views, is perceived by Pakistan's Army as a politician who has challenged their authority.

What he was referring to is the stalled trial in a Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court. Today he spoke like an enemy of Pakistan. Nine of the attackers were killed by police while lone survivor Ajmal Kasab was caught in Mumbai and hanged after being handed down a death sentence.

"You can't run a country if you have two or three parallel governments".
