Spin unseen on TV behind Daniel Ricciardo time loss

After Red Bull teammates Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo collided at the last round in Baku, Ricciardo is expecting both drivers to receive a stern warning from team boss Christian Horner ahead of Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix. With the laps we put in, I thought we would have been a couple of tenths from pole not, what was it, six or seven.

That's not to say Verstappen's race wasn't without some incident, as he had to nurse his Red Bull home with a damaged front wing after clumsily making contact with Lance Stroll behind the Virtual Safety Car.

The Dutchman, still searching for a clean weekend this season, finished just two tenths behind pace-setter Lewis Hamilton in FP2; team-mate Daniel Ricciardo was sandwiched in between just one tenth behind.

"A little bit disheartening", he admitted.

"You never really know until qualifying". Speaking after qualifying, he said: "I still don't know what the faster tyre is to be honest".

"We just don't have that power mode for Q3", Max Verstappen bemoaned. So I hope from now onwards, it just goes in that direction, because I don't think I need to do anything different.

"I think we both put in a strong performance on the supers [in Q3]", he continued.

"Q3 I think we [Verstappen] both put in a good lap on the supers, which I don't think was our preferred tyre, just the way the auto is feeling this weekend I felt the softs were better so that is why I went for them in the second part of Q3".

"Turn Three is easy flat and Turn Nine is also flat so that becomes a straight and then we will lose even more in terms of engine speed". I don't think many people will actually choose the Supersoft [for the race].

It meant a clear competitive picture was even harder to discern than usual. "At the end of the day, it has brought me to where I am so I can't really complain about that".

"So a lot of people will be choosing the Soft and the Medium".

As for Ricciardo, the Aussie said: "The first thing I said afterwards was that I still want to race". Over one lap maybe you could go a bit faster, but in the long run it would just fall apart.
