Sam Allardyce sacked as Everton manager after six months in charge

Grant SmithMay 17, 2018

However, his style of football was never palatable to the Goodison Park faithful and there was palpable discontent towards Allardyce amongst the Everton supporters, despite him steering the club away from a probable relegation threat.

The former England boss took over at the Toffees in November, after the departure of Ronald Koeman, with the Merseyside club sitting 13th in the standings.

The new manager will be selected by Everton's new director of football Marcel Brands and new chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale. "Again, we'd like to place on record our honest thanks to Sam for his work with us over the last few months and wish him well for the future".

Former Watford manager Marco Silva is understood to be Everton's preferred choice to replace him.

Should Silva take the job, Everton fans will hope it's the Silva that did so well with Hull to give them a fighting chance of survival during the 2016/217 season, and the man that had made such a great start to life at Watford before his dismissal after having his head turned by Everton's approach last season.

Everton were unwilling to pay a reported compensation fee of £15 million ($20 million) wanted by Watford for the Portuguese when Koeman was sacked.

Everton want a major management restructure after spending nearly £200million in the past two transfer windows to finish eighth - one place lower than they managed 12 months ago.

Allardyce, who was briefly England manager in 2016 before returning to club management last season at Crystal Palace, had already reacted angrily to structural changes at the club before his meeting with the Iranian-born British tycoon Moshiri.

It's mad to think that at a point earlier this season, the four horsemen of the British managerial merry-go-round apocalypse - that is Alan Pardew, David Moyes, Roy Hodgson and Sam Allardyce - all had jobs at the helm of Premier League clubs.

"He nearly went to the Premier League in November after Everton failed to extract Marco Silva from Watford they then had a meeting with Fonseca, offered him the job, he accepted but Shakhtar wouldn't let him go at that point".

Watford accused Everton of unsettling Silva which they say led to a downturn in form.

Several players were also sent out on loan and that is of course all part and parcel of life in any team these days, a few of them that were put out on loan included Kevin Mirallas who makes the long trip to Olympiakos, along with Harry Charsley who is not out on loan to Bolton.

"He's been offered to several clubs, one of which is West Ham".
