Senate intel panel agrees with US intel agencies

Howard TerryMay 17, 2018

"There is no doubt that Russian Federation undertook an unprecedented effort to interfere with our 2016 elections".

Among the documents released was a transcript of the testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee by the President's son, Donald Trump Jr, who attended the June 9 meeting at Trump Tower in NY, the USA media reported.

Regarding the now infamously misleading statement that Trump Jr. released after news of the June 2016 meeting broke - that the participants had "primarily discussed a program about the adoption of Russian children" - his testimony reveals that his account of what happened diverges materially from reporting by the Washington Post.

There was tons of detail in the 2,500 pages of documents that the Senate Judiciary Committee released on Wednesday, but there are still key questions that haven't been answered. Phone records show that Donald Trump Jr. called a blocked number before and after calls with Agalarov arranging the meeting and again on the night of the meeting.

"He was definitely in charge", he said. Mark Warner, D-Va., said Wednesday in a joint statement with Sen.

"I did not collude with any foreign government and do not know of anyone who did", the president's son said in the interview with the committee's staff on September 7, 2017. Or just indicate how money goes to Hillary. Publicist Rob Goldstone said his source could provide "official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary [Clinton] and her dealings with Russian Federation". You just need to get the meeting.' And then I said, 'I think this is a really bad idea, ' " Goldstone added.

One line from Donald Trump Jr.'s emails stood out: "I love it".

Sawyer asked Trump, Jr.

The initial meeting was organized on the premise that Veselnitskaya would deliver incriminating information on Hillary Clinton to support Trump's campaign.

A Democratic Senate panel lawyer challenged him on the promise of Russian government help.

You'd figure that Trump Jr. would remember Akhmetshin considering he was dressed in a highly inappropriate and overly casual pink outfit.

"I didn't think that listening to someone with information relevant to the fitness and character of a presidential candidate would be an issue, no", he said. He said he was skeptical about the value of such a meeting and "as it later turned out, my skepticism was justified".

Kaveladze works for Agalarov's father, a Russian developer who partnered with Donald Trump to host the Miss Universe contest in Moscow in 2013. Veselnitskaya declined to be interviewed, but provided written answers to questions. Keith Schiller was Trump's longtime head of security. He said he desperately needed a lawyer, wanted to speak publicly about the case but couldn't because the Trump lawyers wouldn't let him and was hoping to be compensated by the Agalarovs for his troubles.

The Trump campaign was willing to accept Russia's assistance.

Lawyers for Trump Jr. attempted to coordinate public remarks after revelations about the meeting.

The publicist who set up the meeting offered to arrange for Russia's largest social network to promote Trump's candidacy to more than 1.6 million Russian-American members of the network, according to some of the documents. "Our leader is weak, '" Mr Goldstone testified about Mr Trump.

"Good morning", Goldstone wrote.

The email included a sample campaign page on the social network using the hashtag #MakeAmericaGreatAgain.

"The Russian effort was extensive, sophisticated, and ordered by President Putin himself for the goal of helping Donald Trump and hurting Hillary Clinton". Citing Trump's busy schedule, Graff declined.

Two years later, another opportunity to meet Mr Putin was dangled before Mr Trump. Moscow denies its interference in the American election campaign.

Indeed, rather than being puzzled and disinterested by the meeting, as Kushner had suggested, Goldstone described the husband of Ivanka Trump as being animated by what he heard from Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.

"Every billionaire who comes to Moscow wants to meet with Putin and majority don't get the chance", Mr McFaul said.

Kaveladze told congressional investigators the campaign staffers appeared unimpressed by the meeting.

But Trump Jr.'s shifting explanations had complicated the task.

The objective of RF interference in the campaign of 2016 was the undermining of public confidence in the democratic process in the United States, discredit the opponents of trump, Hillary Clinton and decrease its chances of winning.

A subsequent email has the sender's name redacted. The subject line was "dt jr".
