Santa Fe shooting suspect's father could face prosecution under Texas law

Though the suspected shooter, Dimitrios Pagourtzis, has confessed to the massacre and potentially faces charges from both local and federal prosecutors, the maximum sentence he's eligible to receive is a life sentence with parole eligibility after 40 years. Pagourtzis is now in the Galveston County jail facing capital murder charges.

The teenager who allegedly gunned down 10 of his high-school classmates and teachers in a grisly rampage in Santa Fe, Texas, on Friday will never get the death penalty or a mandatory life sentence. "Administration looked into these claims and confirmed that these reports are untrue". He left his village in northern Greece when he was 12 with only the clothes he was wearing and a spare set of boots, he said.

"If we want to treat this like parochial schools and having students come to school with a tucked-in shirt so you can see a beltline - that's fair, and that's part of this discussion". I worked hard and became a shipowner. "Now ... our lives are shattered".

In Texas, the unauthorized use of a weapon is a misdemeanor. In 2008, he was convicted of illegally dumping wood materials, records show. An investigation of the shooting is continuing, but Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset said he does not believe that any victims were caught in a cross fire and felled by police bullets.

It's unclear why the cases were dismissed, and neither Pagourtzis' nor the alleged victim's attorneys could be reached for comment.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives traced the weapons to determine their purchase history.

The May 19 front-page article " A fondness for trench coats and a growing darkness" reported that authorities said the two guns used by the alleged shooter in Texas belonged to his father.

"Something must have happened now, this last week", he told the station.

An aunt, Sylvia Pritchett, said in a Facebook post she has "a broken heart and a soul that just can't process all this right now".

"I feel the pain of the others, but I have the same pain". And, as Hodges said, the level of inaction after that shooting in particular spoke volumes about who and what American adults are willing to sacrifice for their guns. "I'm really going to emphasize being proactive", Whitmire said. I can't say what happened.

"I've lost my boy and the only thing I can try for is that they don't execute the kid", he said.

"Had there been one single entrance possibly for every student, maybe he would have been stopped", Dan said. He said he suspects his son was under pressure, perhaps due to bullying. He said he loves me.

Eight of the 10 were students: Kimberly Vaughan, Shana Fisher, Angelique Ramirez, Christian Riley Garcia, Jared Black, Sabika Sheikh, Christopher Jake Stone and Aaron Kyle McLeod. Teachers Glenda Ann Perkins and Cynthia Tisdale were also killed.

The two officers - one of whom was critically wounded - were stationed at the school and "contained" the suspect as almost 200 police arrived to the scene. He remains in intensive care after undergoing multiple surgeries.

The Texas Democratic Party in a statement called the roundtable meetings "theatrics" and chastised Abbott for holding the discussions behind closed doors. Several other law enforcement agencies and school officials were invited to provide their own unique perspectives.

"It's time to go to work - go to work to make sure that this will be a catalyst to ensure that we will build a pathway to reforms so that other students will not have to live through a nightmare", Abbott said. Students are set to return to classes on May 29.
