First lady had 'big operation,' can't fly for a month, Trump says

After Melania Trump, according to the White House reports, underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition on May 14, she hasn't been seen in public while recovering.

The latest criticism is the First Lady's absence from President Trump's upcoming trips to the G7 summit in Canada and his meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un in Singapore next week.

First lady Melania Trump's almost one-month absence from the public eye has stoked wild conspiracy theories about where she could be and the status of her health. She spent five nights in a military hospital before returning to the White House on May 19 to continue her recuperation.

On Wednesday, she appeared before cameras for the first time since her medical procedure, accompanying her husband to a briefing on hurricane-season preparedness at the Washington headquarters of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. 'She's doing great. She went through a little rough patch but she's doing great.

"The Fake News Media has been so unfair, and vicious, to my wife and our great First Lady, Melania", Trump Tweeted Wednesday morning.

But Dr. Simpkins said the first lady may have suffered complications, including severe pain, bleeding, blood clots or an infection.

But Trump's statement made it sound as if the procedure was far more serious than that. Out of concern for her privacy, Stephanie Grisham, Trump's communications director, forcefully pushed back on speculation, telling CNN at the time, "I am not going to expand beyond the statement I put out". During her recovery from surgery they reported everything from near death, to facelift, to left the W.H. Jena Greene, a Gold Star daughter who attended the event with her family, told ABC News the first lady, wearing a black dress and her signature high heels, appeared to be doing well.

Her recent schedule has seen a noticeable shift from the weeks prior to the surgery, when she engaged in several high-profile events.
