Kim Kardashian declared a 'war angel' by Alice Johnson

Kardashian West became a public advocate for Johnson at the end of 2017 when she stumbled upon a video published by Mic that tells the woman's story.

Multiple reports now show Johnson has been released from prison and is reunited with her family.

Last week, the Keeping up with the Kardashians star said she had been in touch with Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law and senior adviser, over the case.

"Telling her for the first time and hearing her screams while crying together is a moment I will never forget", she wrote on Twitter.

Johnson said remained hopeful and sustained herself on the support from her family. "To save someone's life and do that once a year, then that would make [my] heart fuller".

Kardashian West is also responding to the decision, tweeting "BEST NEWS EVER!".

The news comes exactly one week after Kardashian West paid a visit to the White House to meet with the president and lobby for a pardon for Johnson. Here's everything you need to know about the grandmother who moved the reality TV star.

Alice Marie Johnson is emotional and greeted by dozens of family members as they see her for the first time since she's been free. Though Johnson said she feels she overpaid her debt for the crime that she committed, she refuses to focus on the past.

"When Kim told me that I was being released, I started jumping up and screaming and crying and everyone else was crying", Johnson recalled.

Alice Marie Johnson spent more than two decades behind bars, serving life without parole for non-violent drug offences.

She was convicted on charges of attempted possession of drugs and money-laundering in Tennessee.

"I believe because I'm recognized now and my case is magnified through media, it has caught the attention of others", Johnson said. Since then, she has been working daily to make a change in Alice's life after she spent nearly 22 years in prison. All I can say is Thank you, President Trump.

Trump previously issued clemency to former sheriff Joe Arpaio, Scooter Libby, Navy sailor Kristian Saucier, boxing champion Jack Johnson, and right-wing pundit Dinesh D'Souza.
