France on G7: 'Fits of anger' cannot dictate international cooperation

Kudlow, the White House National Economic Council director, appearing on CNN's "State of the Union," described Trudeau's remarks as a "sophomoric play".

Kudlow had been negotiating nicely with Trudeau at the summit in Quebec and the United States had agreed to join the joint communique, but Trump pulled out after he felt betrayed by Trudeau's news conference where the prime minister called Trump's tariffs on Canadian aluminum and steel exports "insulting".

President Donald Trump shakes hands with Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a bilateral meeting at the G-7 summit in in Charlevoix, Quebec, Canada, June 8, 2018.

Peter Navarro, a White House trade adviser, also slammed the Canadian prime minister, telling "Fox News Sunday" there is a "special place in hell" for leaders like Trudeau. Navarro later clarified that his comments were "the sentiment that was on Air Force One after that".

The summit ended in disarray: US President Donald Trump said the US would not endorse the joint statement from the summit.

President Trump "is not going to let a Canadian Prime Minister push him around - push him, POTUS, President Trump, around - on the eve of this" North Korean Summit, Kudlow announced.

France has warned that "fits of anger" can not not dictate global cooperation after US President Donald Trump abruptly rejected a previously agreed joint statement in the wake of a fractious Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada.

The president's team asserted that Trump and his team had agreed to the Communique in good faith, but now it is unclear what trade agreement will be reached amongst the coalition. "Our tariffs are in response to his 270 percent on dairy".

"For Canadians who ... stood shoulder to shoulder with American soldiers in far-off lands and conflicts from the First World War onward.it's kind of insulting", Trudeau said.

But by ordering his representatives to back out of the communique, Mr Trump appeared to be asserting his oft-stated aim of upsetting the status quo whether by pulling out of the global climate accord or the worldwide nuclear deal with Iran or threats to scrap the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Navarro calls that a "socialist communique" that Trump pulled out of.

"I have made it very clear to the President that it is not something we relish doing, but it is something that we absolutely will do".

He was reacting to Trudeau's declaration that Canadians would "not be pushed around" and would hit back at punishing USA tariffs on metal imports with "equivalent tariffs".

"We need to stand with our democratic allies", Feinstein said. So, I ask you: "He gets up in the airplane and leaves, and then Trudeau starts blasting him at a domestic news conference?"

"He is not going to permit any show of weakness on the trip to negotiate with North Korea", Kudlow told CNN.

Kudlow suggested on "Face the Nation" that Mr. Trump saw Trudeau as trying to weaken his hand before that meeting, saying the president won't "allow the people to suddenly take pot shots at him".
