North Korea's Kim visits Singapore's sky bar, gardens in surprise evening tour

His sister and close aide Kim Yo Jong is believed to have used it to travel separately to Singapore, echoing the USA practice of presidents and vice-presidents generally never flying together on Air Force One - or any other aircraft - to ensure one of them survives in the event of disaster.

Rodman is one of a handful of Westerners to have visited reclusive North Korea and met Kim. Media houses and analysts have had a lot to say on the 12 June summit, attempting to explain and highlight its significance.

It was a striking about-face from less than a year ago, when Trump was threatening "fire and fury" against Kim, who in turn scorned the American president as a "mentally deranged US dotard".

Before flying to Singapore, Mr. Trump was in Canada for the G-7 summit with leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the U.K. All seven leaders had worked out a joint statement stressing the importance of a rules-based worldwide trading system.

He has been involved in the country's relations with the USA and South Korea for more than two decades.

Sebastian Gorka said Monday that President Trump's historic summit with Kim Jong Un can yield two large results.

His New Year speech - the one that kick-started this diplomatic process - was all about North Korea's strategy of building the economy having achieved the goal of becoming a nuclear power.

In a statement Monday, British Prime Minister Theresa May said: "I want to pay a particular tribute to Prime Minister Trudeau for his leadership and skillful chairing".

With South Korea scrambling to mediate, the two sides worked through the hiccup and got the summit back on track. Trump had earlier tweeted about the "excitement in the air!"

In the weeks leading up to the summit in Singapore, Trump praised Kim as "very honorable" and "very open", a stark contrast from the "Little Rocket Man" moniker Trump had previously bestowed on the North Korean leader.

In Singapore, the island city-state hosting the summit, the sense of anticipation was palpable, with people lining spotless streets Monday waving cellphones as Trump headed to meet Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. In an op-ed, the Associated Press has expressed doubts that Kim "would fully relinquish his nuclear arsenal, which he may see as the guarantor of his survival".

Mr Kim's itinerary was reported in detail, which is a rarity for the state's media, according to South Korea's Yonhap news agency. Today, we start with a behind the scenes of the summit.

"The irony ... is that what was initially presented as a cliff-hanger dramatic summit, upon which war or peace on the Korean peninsula hung is now looking more like conventional diplomacy for the unconventional Trump White House", Cha told a Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee last week.

Gorka also said that he was "very disappointed" in Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following his remarks after the G7 Summit over the weekend. "We would be in a situation in which we were once again talking preventive strikes and the South Koreans would be caught in the middle".

Some observers insist that it's the beginning of the complete denuclearisation of North Korea.

Now China will be paying close attention to what transpires in Mr Kim's meeting with Mr Trump. But in the unpredictable Trump era, their Tuesday morning summit in Singapore seems a fitting next chapter for the two heads of state.
