Xbox invests in subscription gaming with new debuts like "Forza Horizon 4"

Microsoft (MSFT) showed its commitment to the video game business on Sunday by announcing the acquisition of five game studios to increase exclusive content for its Xbox One console.

Their presser was chock-full of game announcements and trailers, including a new Forza Horizon, new Halo, new Gears, and updates on Crackdown and other titles.

New games from Japanese developers were shown too - another surprise, that they were using Xbox's conference to make the reveal at all. That game is still to be published by Gearbox, however this will change their future work.

Though no performance specs were stated during the conference, it's expected that Forza Horizon 4 will run at 30 frames per second at a 1080p resolution on the Xbox One and Xbox One S, with 4K capabilities for Xbox One X users.

More exciting still, the next generation of Xbox consoles are already being worked on.

It's also about time that 343 Industries unveiled the next Halo game. Spencer said Microsoft is "dedicated to perfecting your experience everywhere you want to play; your Xbox, your PC and your phone".

The next entry in the Halo franchise is official - and it's called Halo Infinite.

Microsoft revealed during its Electronic Entertainment Expo event in Los Angeles today that it is working on a new Battletoads game.

"We know that exclusive games from Microsoft Studios is what originally turned so many of us into Xbox fans", Spencer said at E3. "This is why we're amplifying our investment in worlds that will deepen your love of Xbox". They pulled off expert level trolling trolling with Gears POP! for mobile devices, XCOM-like intrigue with Gears Tactics, and a close look at Gears of War 5 with a few glances at gameplay. The company did not give any information about the game beyond a teaser trailer, but the name would imply either a Fortnite-like battle royale style game or a persistent world.

"The longevity of games resulting from the "games as a service" model is also why Xbox is committed to backwards compatibility".
