City watches, waits as raccoon gets stuck after scaling Minnesota building

The raccoon, known fondly under the hashtag #mprraccoon, was first spotted by intrepid Minnesota Public Radio reporter Tim Nelson having apparently been stuck on the ledge of a nearby building for two days.

The pint-sized daredevil climbed all the way up to the 23 story of an office building before being removed by building maintenance. At one point, a small crowd had gathered on the street to see what would happen next.

A raccoon got itself into quite the predicament while scaling a tower in St. Paul, Minnesota.

About 2.30 a.m. a grainy live feed from the scene showed a shadowy figure scurrying up and over the top of a 25-story building, prompting an nearly audible sigh of relief from the internet.

Many expressed concern for the raccoon's safety - wondering aloud about possible rescue scenarios.

The furry critter's ascent up the UBS Tower, as it clung only to the building's rough exterior more than 20 stories above the ground, started to stress people out on Twitter.

By Tuesday afternoon, it was up to the 23rd floor. Officials set traps with food hoping to lure it and end the harrowing climb, the Star Tribune reported.

As night descended on St. Paul, the raccoon appeared to start climbing down, before reversing course.

An extremely courageous (or extremely stupid) raccoon scaled a Minnesota building on Tuesday, shocking onlookers and sending Twitter into an anxious frenzy.
