IL police officer saves child running along busy road

Police in IL released video showing the moment an officer stopped to save a young boy he saw running on the side of a busy road. The 2-year-old boy is running south on Route 59 along the right lane, steps away from passing motorists in the center lane.

The sergeant pulled over and parked his squad auto to block traffic in the lane.

Dashcam captured the May incident and shows the officer running after the boy before pulling him to safety. "I just wanted to get to him quickly and make sure he had no opportunity to move". Mannino then alerts dispatch that he has him and would begin searching for his parents.

Sergeant Anthony Mannino received the Naperville Police Department's life saving award Thursday because of a heroic act that was caught on video.

"We attribute that to Sgt. Mannino's observation while on patrol and quick reaction, placing his squad auto and himself between the child and traffic", said the department on Facebook. She told the officer he had made it about two blocks from their home.
