Insomniac's new Spider-Man trailer shows off a sinister group of villains

Perhaps the most intriguing game making its debut at Sony's E3 2018 press conference was Control, developed by Remedy (of Max Payne and Alan Wake fame) and published by 505 Games.

An achingly attractive trailer was debuted on the Sony stage last night, showing off the new title set in feudal Japan.

What is Ghost of Tsushima and when does it come out?

For the last two years, Sony has used E3 as a showcase for its upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive Spider-Man title from Insomniac Games. A third-person shooter, Control takes place in a constantly shape-shifting NY building; its protagonist, Jesse Faden, has telekinetic powers.

The story seems to be placed right in the middle of a Mongol invasion, with the various factions throughout Japan warring for supremacy in a bloody, ongoing war. We also get a look at how Spider-Man will fight the many goons he'll encounter. It'll be interesting to see who is the mysterious villain that appeared at the end of the video. It's clear to see that Ghost of Tsushima is really nailing a distinct and cinematic aesthetic, instantly evoking romanticised imagery from classic samurai movies. After an intermission as journalists were shuffled into a different room (during which we saw e.g. a recap of games Sony had already announced), we got a shakuhachi performance, similar to The Last of Us II having a banjo perfomance from Gustavo Santaolalla before its gameplay earlier. It definitely feels like a Sucker Punch game, from the character animations and ability to clamber up the scenery, through to the finer details of the visual style.

Unfortunately, there's no word on when Ghost of Tsushima will be released, but we believe that the game will be available sometime in 2019.

"Keeping it a secret for so long has been painful".

A full on release is to be confirmed by the studio, but it is safe to say that fans can not wait to get their hands on their shiny new katana in Ghosts of Tsushima.
