NV Primary Elections: Results Pouring In

Howard TerryJun 13, 2018

Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart on Tuesday rode a pro-Trump message to narrowly win the Republican U.S. Senate nomination in Virginia over state Delegate Nick Freitas.

And Steven Horsford won the primary for the 4th District seat he held in southern Nevada for one term before Republican Cresent Hardy defeated him in 2014. Hill's campaign for the Republican nomination then was cut short by a vote by acclamation for consultant and lobbyist Ed Gillespie, who narrowly lost to Warner in that election.

The Republican nominee, already chosen by convention, is state Del. Former U.S. Navy Lieutenant and current Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt leads the GOP primary polls with more than 50 percent and enjoys endorsements from Sen.

In House District 13 in Old Orchard Beach, Democrat Lori Gramlich beat Jay Kelley for the right to run against Republican Sharri MacDonald in November.

Democrats are hoping the race in Virginia's 10th District, which cuts from the District of Columbia suburbs to the West Virginia border, is one of the leading indicators of a blue wave in November.

U.S. Rep. Dina Titus defeated challenger Reuben D'Silva on Tuesday in her bid for re-election in the 1st Congressional District. These victories mean that the state's Democratic party has nominated six women to fill 11 House seats, all but one of which are now occupied by men. Republicans went on to sweep most major offices in general election contests that year.

Initially, Walker said he would wait to fill these seats until November, but he was sued by the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, former Attorney General Eric Holder's organization, and Dane County Circuit Judge Josann Reynolds ruled in March that Walker had to hold special elections. He said he might not certify the election results. "He's a TV actor", Mr. Wilson said.

According to a Tuesday Politico report, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus is organizing the trip to San Diego, where Pelosi and other Democrats will visit "at least one facility housing migrant children" who were apprehended at the border.

The fact that Heitkamp is running unopposed this year speaks to her strong standing with the state's Democratic Party. "The guy - he doesn't know what the hell he's doing", he said. Virginia has open primaries, which means party does not matter.

"If you're not with my president, I'm not with you", said Johanna Ashworth, 35, from Haymarket.

She has portrayed Heller as a flip-flopper who has cozied up to President Donald Trump.

"We are now on a mission to bring real representation to Northern Virginia and to remove Barbara Comstock from office", she said. "I'd much rather see a Democrat in office than I'd prefer to see her, if it comes down to that, because something has got to change".

Democrats need a net gain of 23 seats after the midterm elections to take control of the U.S. House.

"I'm prepared to make that vote but I'm not prepared to make a vote on something I haven't read", she said.

The 43 wins for Democrats have not been a net gain, however. This time, she's running against Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., a moderate Republican with a failing-grade Liberty Score.
