Resident Evil 2 remake announced for early 2019

Leon S. Kennedy is a rookie cop who finds himself tied up in the madness of Raccoon City when he reports in for the world's worst first day on the job, while Claire Redfield is a street savvy college student who defies the danger of the city as she searches for her brother, Chris.

"The press and fan reaction to Resident Evil 2 when we said "We Do It" in 2015 has been overwhelming". Players can expect fresh take on the stories of Claire and Leon, as they move around the city in a desperate effort to stay alive.

Terrifyingly realistic visuals - Built on Capcom's proprietary RE Engine, Resident Evil 2 delivers breathtakingly photorealistic visuals in 4K whilst stunning lighting creates an up-close, intense and atmospheric experience as players roam the corridors of the Raccoon City Police Department (RPD). That last one seems to indicate that this game will echo some of the major story beats of the original Resident Evil 2, but it's hard to say for sure how closely this game will follow the plot of the original.

In case you didn't already see in the reveal trailer, Resident Evil 2 is slated to release next year on January 25 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Horror fans need no fret, however, the Resident Evil 2 Remake has you covered. Like the original, the player will be able to play through separate campaigns headed by Leon and Claire. They must work together to survive and get to the bottom of what is behind the terrifying attack. This is a full remake, with new, modern graphics.

There was very little pure gameplay footage but it did confirm that the remake uses an over-the-shoulder camera view similar to Resident Evil 4 (and 5 and 6) and not the first person view from the more recent Resident Evil 7.

Attendees at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (Los Angeles, June 12-14) can get an early preview with the first hands-on demo opportunity for Resident Evil 2 at Capcom's booth.
