ER doctor caught mocking, cursing at patient suspended

According to an El Camino Hospital spokesperson, the physician in question was suspended after a man accused her of having mocked his son during a medical examination.

He recorded his son, 20-year-old Samuel Bardwell, at El Camino Hospital in Los Gatos, CA, near San Jose.

His father tells SFGate that Bardwell suffers frequently from anxiety attacks and has to take Klonopin, a sedative that treats panic disorders, to alleviate its symptoms.

The now-viral cell phone video shows Dr. Beth Keegstra's inhumane treatment of Samuel Bardwell - a 20-year-old student from West Valley College - during his ER visit this week.

"In my mind, I don't think she should be practicing medicine at all", dad Donald Bardwell told ABC's "Good Morning America".

"She said, 'I know why you people are here, you people who come here for drugs, ' and I said 'What do you mean you people?'" Donald Bardwell told the outlet.

Bardwell asked his father to record the incident after growing suspicious of Keegstra's behavior, according to ABC.

"You're full of sh*t!" she told Bardwell, as he tried to explain his condition.

She then tugs at him and insists he can get up, and argues with Samuel about what he is physically capable of.

"I'm sorry sir you are the least sick of all the people who are here, who are dying", Keegstra says.

El Camino said in a statement that Keegstra's demeanor was "unprofessional and not the standard we require of all who provide care" at the hospital. On Wednesday, Keegstra, who had worked at El Camino since the start of the decade, was removed from the hospital's work schedule pending investigation of her case.

Samuel Bardwell told the station that Keegstra should be fired and the hospital should be investigated. She even tries to yank him up after he clearly states that he can not move.

The patient says the doctor should be fired and can't understand how she was hired in the first place.

The video was posted on Tuesday by Donald Bardwell.

Samuel said he has contacted a lawyer and is considering suing the hospital. "I'm having you sit up!" "Do you want us to wheel you to your house in a gurney?"

After a bit of back-and-forth, Dr. Keegstra can be heard asking Samuel whether he was faking his anxiety attack to get narcotics. "They just were not taking care of me from the beginning".

When Donald Bardwell told Keegstra he saw his son "go in and out of consciousness", she replied that his son was "completely alert and awake right now" and that he had 100 percent oxygen saturation.

A LinkedIn page for Keegstra identifies her as a doctor with Vituity/California Emergency Physicians, a group that contracts with hospitals to provide emergency-room physicians. A spokeswoman for the Mayo Clinic said Keegstra was contracted as a "supplemental employee" at a Mayo Clinic Health System site from January 2013 to January 2016.

"I think she needs to be terminated".
