Microsoft ‘Confirms’ Pocket-Sized Surface In Leaked Document: Could This Be Andromeda?

Nichole VegaJul 01, 2018

Windows Phone was a flop and caused Microsoft to miss the smartphone boom, a notable hit as PCs lose market share.

According to internal documents from Microsoft, Andromeda will be "a new pocketable Surface device form factor that brings together innovative new hardware and software experiences to create a truly personal and versatile computing experience".

Microsoft could launch its mysterious dual-screen Androidmeda device aka Surface Phone later this year.

For nearly a decade, there have been rumours that Microsoft was developing a dual-screen device that would radically alter the way we think about modern computing. But rather than again taking on smartphones from Apple, Samsung and Google in what has so far proven to be a losing battle, the Redmond company will reportedly position this device as creating a "new and disruptive" category.

Andromeda has been a long time coming, with plenty of leaks and reports about the device coming from patents and references in Windows 10's code. Previous reports suggest, the device will come with a wraparound display which will help bridge the gap of the hinge when the device is fully opened. Renders (see below) created by David Breyers look nearly exactly like the current prototype's, according to The Verge's sources.

The design of the device, which will be accompanied by Surface Pen-like stylus, apparently matches up to the recent 3D concept images we've seen in recent months, which you can see below. Insiders reveal that the company could pull the plug on the device at any stage like they did with the Surface Mini a few weeks before its release. It is also being said that the company is testing out the device with both Intel and Qualcomm processors, however, it is not yet decided which processor will go into the final build of the product.
