Indiana Church Puts Holy Family In ‘ICE Detention Center’ To Send Message

Steve Carlsen, dean of the Christ Church Cathedral in Indianapolis, told RTV6 that he hopes the display can help "hearts soften" on the controversial and divisive topic. The strong stance taken by the church shows their adamant opinion against the separation of families at the USA border.

In response, the church is now working on an "Every Family is Holy" campaign that draws parallels between Jesus' family and modern-day immigrants, according to CBS News. "People who come to us for safety, for refuge are just like everyone in our families". Curtis also noted that the biblical refugee family was seeking asylum in Egypt shortly after Jesus's birth.

Carlsen echoed those comments, speaking with the Star. I know what the Bible says. "We treat our neighbors the way we want to be treated, and we treat our neighbors as we love ourselves", Carlsen told Newsweek.

"We must not be divided by race, language or culture, but reach out to care for our neighbours-because every family is sacred". The large exhibit is in the front lawn of the church - and it's guaranteed to get a lot of attention. "How long are we going to keep detaining families indefinitely?" he said.

Carlsen said he hopes the caged icons will inspire people of good will and faith to recognize that the USA policy of separating families must end.

No wonder, then, that the nativity scene recently posted outside of Christ Church Cathedral in Indianapolis has inspired such a reaction.

"On our lawn tonight we placed The Holy Family.in #ICE detention", the church tweeted.

But thousands of children had been separated from their families by the time the president signed the order and many lawmakers have pressed the president's administration on how parents and children will be reunited. "I would love for it to be outdated and be taken down".
