Interim EPA chief called Trump a ‘bully’ during campaign

President Donald Trump said he has accepted the resignation of Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt.

Bowing out after months of scandals, Scott Pruitt is turning the Environmental Protection Agency over to a far less flashy deputy who is expected to continue Pruitt's rule-cutting, business-friendly ways as steward of the country's environment. "I have no doubt that Andy will continue on with our great and lasting EPA agenda", Trump wrote. Pruitt's deputy, Andrew Wheeler, will start as acting administrator of the EPA on Monday. "We have made tremendous progress and the future of the EPA is very bright!"

Twitter meme creator Darth tweeted with a picture of other Trump administration officials who have also resigned, including former Press Secretary Sean Spicer and former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus. ObamaCare navigators antsy about funding Huawei: FCC proposal would hurt poor, rural communities Trump gave the giant Chinese cellphone maker a stay of execution MORE (R-Fla.) for president.

A former Oklahoma attorney general close to the oil and gas industry, Pruitt had filed more than a dozen lawsuits against the agency he was picked to lead. "But Mr. Pruitt's brazen abuse of his position for his own personal gain has been absolutely astounding, rivaled only by the silence of far too many in Congress and in the White House who allowed Mr. Pruitt's unethical, and at times, possibly illegal behavior to go unchecked", the DE senator said in a lengthy statement.

Pruitt's resignation comes amid a whirlwind of accusations and investigations into apparent misconduct at the helm of EPA.

Pruitt's resignation follows months during which the EPA administrator has been embroiled in one ethics controversy after the next.

"Despite his brief tenure, Pruitt was the worst EPA chief in history", said Kieran Suckling, executive director of the Center for Biological Diversity. In less than two years in Mr. Trump's Cabinet, he took a generous rental deal on a condo owned by a major lobbyist's wife, enlisted government employees to do menial personal tasks for him, obtained expensive 24-hour security, pressed to fly first-class and by private jet, saw extravagant office upgrades, used his position to try to get his wife a lucrative job and took extremely expensive foreign trips only glancingly related to his public responsibilities.

In the post, Wheeler, a former energy lobbyist, wrote a six-part condemnation of Trump.

Massachusetts Democrats, who vocally criticized the EPA chief's actions and efforts to reverse Obama-era policies, praised news of Pruitt's resignation. He was also found by the Government Accountability Office to have violated federal spending law when purchasing a $43,000 soundproof phone booth in his office.
