Keri Russell in talks to join 'Star Wars: Episode IX'

With the passing of Carrie Fisher, and the lack of exploration of the Skywalker twins and their relationship to Padme, it would be nice if she could return in some way in Episode IX.

The publication claims the role involves fight scenes and claims director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm execs chose Russell just before the Fourth of July. When contacted for confirmation, Lucasfilm said they had no comment on the report.

Variety has confirmed that actress Keri Rusell is in talks to join the still-untitled Star Wars: Episode IX. Previously, she worked with Abrams on his beloved series Felicity, in which she played the titular role. Russell also had an action-packed role in his Mission: Impossible III, and Abrams spoke at her Walk of Fame induction ceremony.

Fernando Reza, an LA-based graphic artist, tweeted an image of his Star Wars: The Last Jedi poster that mocked a section of fans who have been vocal in their anger about the movie. The ninth sequential Star Wars film has landed back in the hands of J.J. Abrams after Colin Trevorrow backed out because of creative differences. But that won't stop us from speculating who Russell might play. "I would do crafts services if he asked!" Abrams is looking to cast two more roles before filming officially begins.

Earlier today, a report came out suggesting that Episode IX will likely be finding its way to some familiar Star Wars locales. Star Wars IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
