Samsung profits slow after poor smartphone sales

Samsung Electronics is now hoping for its upcoming Galaxy X to improve its profit following the sluggish sales of its Galaxy S9 flagship phone.

Running Android 8 Oreo, the Galaxy J7 Star sports a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a classic 720 x 1280 pixels resolution, and employs a pretty generic design that Samsung's been using for years on its less advanced phones.

Renowned leaker Ice Universe has today posted on their Weibo account information that suggests that Samsung are planning to announce the foldable Galaxy X (will they really call it this?) at CES 2019 in Las Vegas followed a month later by the Galaxy S10 at MWC 2019 in Barcelona. The US carriers website already shows the phone in its entirety – its the Samsung Galaxy J7 Star.

Either way, we're months away from anything happening on a Galaxy S10 front, so these plans may get scrapped and we may ultimately see just two models early next year.

The Galaxy X launch has been postponed for a few years, but it looks like it will finally be hitting the market next year.

Every major mobile phone maker is expected to come up with a foldable device in 2019, and latest rumors point out that Microsoft is nearly ready to unveil its model.

Industry sources said sales of smartphones were weak amid mounting competition from rivals as marketing costs for new mobile products also increased, undercutting the sector's profitability. Samsung fans will likely have to wait until late 2018 for further rumors on which device will be announced first next year.

KitGuru Says: This is evidence of how competitive the smartphone space is getting when even Samsung are having issues selling their flagship devices.
