Carmelo Anthony to Rockets? Juicy Summer League sighting blows race wide open

Grant SmithJul 11, 2018

"The Oklahoma City Thunder granted Carmelo Anthony permission to meet with prospective teams, including the Houston Rockets and Miami Heat, league sources told ESPN".

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Rockets "plan to ramp up a pursuit of Carmelo Anthony", after free agent forward Luc Mbah a Moute agreed to a one-year, $4.3 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, and Trevor Ariza reached a one-year $15 million deal with the Phoenix Suns.

Mbah a Moute spent the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons with the Clippers before joining the Rockets last season.

Those two teams have emerged as top candidates to sign Anthony when he and the Thunder part ways in the coming days.

But Anthony has averaged 24.1 points and shot 44.9 percent in 15 National Basketball Association seasons and has been one of the NBA's premier scorers of the past 20 years. The 10-year veteran was also a key component in Mike D'Antoni's offense, chipping in 7.5 points per game while shooting 36 percent from beyond the 3-point line.

Wojnarowski adds that the Rockets will be a "premium consideration" for Anthony, and they'll likely want his services too because of the losses they have already suffered this offseason through free agency. Anthony is now in the twilight of his career, barely shooting 40 percent from the field with the Thunder previous year and averaging a career low in points while putting in his usual effort, or lack thereof, on defense.

The Rockets must find a way to bring back Capela.

Green originally signed with the Rockets on December 28, 2017 and averaged 12.1 points over the remainder of the season.
