Trump, after questioning Mays Brexit plan, arrives in hot spot Britain

May said in remarks during a banquet on Thursday with Mr. Trump at Blenheim Palace, Churchill's birthplace.

Earlier today Trump gave an extraordinary press conference in Brussels after giving North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders a bruising over defence cash, where he wrote off protesters and said Theresa May's Brexit deal probably wasn't what Britons voted for. They like me a lot in the UK.

He added: "I've been reading a lot about Brexit over the last couple of days, and it seems to be turning a little bit differently, where they're getting at least partially involved back with the European Union", Mr Trump said. Mr Trump is hardly likely to catch a glimpse of the six metre giant orange inflatable blimp that depicts him as a screaming baby.

In a bid to steer clear of the protests, the U.S. president's itinerary largely avoids the capital - and any other large cities in the United Kingdom - with much of his trip being conducted in private estates or palaces.

Speaking in the House of Commons on Thursday, the Liverpool Labour MP Dan Carden called for Parliament to ensure that protesters were given sufficient space to express their views, saying police in London had denied demonstrators a proper stage from which to address the rallies.

Opposition MPS, backed by an online petition signed by almost 1.9 million people, called on May to cancel the state visit offered when she met Trump in Washington after his inauguration in January previous year. Their first stop was to the ambassador's official residence at Winfield House in London, while being carefully protected from protesters.

"The requirements of this complex operation need to be balanced with the right of individuals to a freedom of speech". A YouGov poll on Wednesday showed 77 percent of Britons had an unfavourable opinion of the president and just 50 percent thought his visit should go ahead.

They added: "Rather than an attack on one minority, Trump is an attack on the idea of diversity, and the ability for people to live their lives in a way that doesn't affect anyone else...this is about standing in solidarity with this is about protecting our right to be different from one another and to get along".

British law requires any petition supported by more than 100,000 people to be considered for parliamentary debate, even though there was no serious attempt to prohibit Trump from entering Britain. There was no vote and no ban was imposed.

However, the force said there were a number of "possible alternative" locations in Scotland where the blimp could be based, raising the prospect of it flying above one of several planned protests.

In January, the US president canceled a planned visit to London to open the new US Embassy, calling it a bad deal in a poor location.

The State Department is warning Americans "to keep a low profile" and "be aware of your surroundings" this week.

The president is expected to head to Scotland on Friday night and spend the weekend at his Turnberry golf resort in South Ayrshire.

Despite not being an official state visit, the Government is desperate to ensure the USA leader feels he is being treated with the appropriate level of pomp and ceremony.

In June of a year ago, Trump mocked Khan for his handling of the London Bridge terror attack and called him "pathetic".
