United States president Donald Trump visits United Kingdom, in pictures

More than 50,000 people have signed up to demonstrate in London on Friday against his visit, although a counter-gathering to welcome him is also planned.

Speaking at an impromptu press conference after a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels Trump said the British people shared his concerns on immigration, claiming "that's why Brexit happened".

The exterior of The Trump Arms public house, formally named The Jameson, which has embraced the arrival of US President Donald Trump for a visit by changing its name and decorating its interior with Trump memorabilia, is seen in West London on July 12, 2018.

The convention-shredding president had ignored diplomatic niceties ahead of touching down for the four-day visit - his first to Britain since taking power - by rebuking his beleaguered host as she struggles over Brexit. Organizers now say they hope to take the blimp on a "world tour", following Trump on his global diplomatic engagements.

The president, however, is staying positive about his visit, telling reporters, "They like me a lot in the U.K. They agree with me on immigration".

The prime minister's plan "will definitely affect trade with the United States, unfortunately in a negative way", Trump said. Trump's staff has opted to keep him largely out of central London and the swarms of demonstrators who are expected to protest the president's every move during his two-day stay in the United Kingdom.

Blimp organizer Leo Murray said it had been created to speak to Trump "in a language that he understands, which is personal insults".

It has also complained that 300 officers working during the visit will have to sleep on camp beds in a gymnasium that has no hot water and restricted access to hot food. (The only president she didn't meet was, Lyndon B. Johnson.) She has invited far fewer of them to Windsor Castle-just Ronald Reagan, whom she rode horses with in 1982; George W. Bush in 2008; and Barack Obama in 2016, as Vanity Fair notes.

After the president and First Lady Melania Trump arrived at Stansted Airport, Trump said he was "fine" about any protests during his visit.

"The queen will know full well that he's a big tweeter so she'll be even more cautious as to what she says", said Dickie Arbiter, the former press secretary for Elizabeth.

The Trumps were greeted in the courtyard of Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire by UK Prime Minister Theresa May and husband Philip for the dinner in the President's honour.

"This week we have an opportunity to deepen this unique trading relationship and begin discussions about how we will forge a strengthened, ambitious and future-proof trade partnership". I think that " s why Brexit happened". They like me a lot in the UK.

Trump's trip coincides with a tumultuous week for May after two senior ministers resigned in protest at her plans for trade with the European Union after Britain leaves next March.

The two leaders will hold talks at the Prime Minister's country residence of Chequers where Russia, Brexit and the Middle East will top the agenda.

Mr Trump, who is due to arrive in Scotland on Air Force One on Friday, is expected to spend the weekend at his luxury golf resort on the South Ayrshire coast.

After London, he will travel to Scotland and then onto Helsinki to meet with Russian president Vladimir Putin.
