Ontario woman becomes accidental vehicle thief after key fob mix-up

A woman in Cornwall went for a bit of an accidental joy ride after confusing another man's auto for her rental.

Police are advising drivers who have cars that use fobs to not leave them in the auto as this makes them much easier to steal, even if it is accidentally.

When the woman left the store, instead of returning to the Nissan, she entered a black Infiniti QX50 that was parked in the store's lot and took off.

"The Infinity came back as stolen on police systems as reported in June and ... both the auto rental company and the Infiniti owner retrieved their vehicles and there was a happy, and amusing ending to this story".

The stolen vehicle was a black Infinity QX50.

After 2 weeks, she came back to Enterprise return the vehicle, and she made sure she complained to the manager about giving her a dirty, obviously used auto.

The Manager said they don't rent these models, and together they went to the supermarket Parking lot, where he found the missing Nissan. She then drove to a nearby Walmart to do a spot of shopping, which is when she accidentally switched cars, leaving the rental and stealing someone else's ride.

Both vehicles require a key fob so the woman only had to push start. She informed the manager that she wasn't entirely happy with the auto.

In the end, both the auto rental company and the Infiniti owner retrieved their vehicles and there was a happy ending to the story.

Upon returning the auto the woman explained her frustrations with the vehicle rental agency.

A Cornwall woman will not face any charges after accidentally stealing a vehicle for two weeks.

A Canadian man has had his vehicle returned to him after it was stolen two weeks ago - but the story of where it ended up is nearly too good to be true.

How the mix-up happened is simple, both drivers left their keys in their vehicles.

In a lengthy Facebook post, the Cornwall Community Police Service warned motorists to never leave key fobs in cars when not in use.

Back-tracking through her trips, he asked her to drive with him to the Wal-Mart-where her actual-rental black Nissan Sentra still Saturday Putting together the pieces in his head and remembering his other distraught-over-a-recently-stolen-Infiniti customer, the manager made a call to police.
