Expert talks savings on Iowa Tax Free Weekend

Wisconsin's first ever Sales Tax Holiday starts Wednesday (August 1 - August 5) and there's a list of items you can buy sales tax free.

Logan County residents pay a 7.25 percent sales tax between applicable state and local taxes, meaning shoppers will save $7.25 for every $100 spent this weekend. See more about Missouri's tax-free holiday weekend here.

The weekend is one of the busiest shopping events of the year for some retailers.

"Governor Walker and the Wisconsin State Legislature have determined that some of that surplus should be returned to taxpayers in the form of a sales tax holiday". This sales tax free weekend has been going on in MS for ten years.

Not everything you may want to purchase though will be exempted from sales tax, but most clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks (under $100) will be tax-free. "That way throughout the year, they have a little bit more to spend".

"The people of OH deserve to keep more of the money they earn so that they can more easily provide these essentials for their families", said McColley. Qualifying clothing items for the whole family include jeans, pants, shirts, dresses, shoes, underwear, uniforms, athletic supporters, boots, and coats.

The study also found that OH counties that border other states experienced a 15.48 percent increase in sales tax collection, leading to the conclusion that many out-of-state families traveled to OH to take part in the tax holiday.

School supplies are tax-free as long as each item is under $75.

Parents will also save tax on certain school supplies if each item is $15 or less.

"School supplies" does not include any item purchased for use in a trade or business.
