Demetrious Johnson Says He Was Injured During Loss to Henry Cejudo

Cody Garbrandt has the reputation as a big puncher, but for the second time in as many fights, it was T.J. Dillashaw doing most of the damage.

Demetrious Johnson's record-breaking run of consecutive title defenses is over after the longtime flyweight king was beaten by Henry Cejudo in Los Angeles, while TJ Dillashaw earned a second TKO win against rival Cody Garbrandt.

Garbrandt hit Dillashaw with a wide right hand that would close Dillashaw's right eye.

Garbrandt, 27, landed a few right hands that appeared to have an effect on Dillashaw, but once he began to lose control of the bout, he never reclaimed it. Dillashaw suffered a small mouse under his right eye, but he continued to keep a pace on Garbrandt. The UFC would be wise to build him up with a couple of winnable fights before matching him up with another high-level opponent. The 27-year-old had reached the top of the bantamweight division with a unanimous decision win over Cruz as a +185 underdog at UFC 207, and returns to the octagon for a second tilt with Dillashaw as a narrow -105 underdog. As Dillashaw unloads on Garbrandt, referee Herb Dean allowed a lot of damage to continue, giving Cody every chance to regain composure but he was to far gone.

T.J. Dillashaw simply repeated himself, only quicker.

He got up, though, and went right back at it with Dillashaw because it's the only way he knows how to fight. "That's it: Best bantamweight of all time".

In the latest example of just how unpredictable the sport of mixed martial arts can be, Johnson's 125lbs title was wrested away by Henry Cejudo in the co-main event of UFC 227 on Saturday night.

Cejudo, 31, a native of Los Angeles, took home the decision on judges' scores of 48-47 (twice), which was the same score the third judge had in favor of Johnson. Cejudo used his world-class wrestling to take Johnson down multiple times and control the fight.

"Bring it baby, let's do this", Dillashaw said in response. "And the victor of this next bout, I wanna fight that guy". He probably has to give a rematch to Demetrious Johnson.

Dillashaw retains the 135lb title he won from Garbrandt last year, in doing so consigning the Team Alpha Male fighter to the bottom of the ladder less than a year after he was its undisputed champion. Moraes is a well-rounded fighter and a former World Series of Fighting champion - I wouldn't be surprised to see him pull out a victory over Dillashaw.
