Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-0 to win the Community Shield

Sergio Aguero spoiled Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri's first taste of English football as the Argentine's double gave Manchester City a stylish 2-0 victory in the Community Shield on Sunday. "My hat's off to them".

Only three weeks into his reign, Sarri cut the kind of frustrated figure that was familiar to Chelsea fans who grew used to Antonio Conte's touchline anguish when results went bad last season. "I was focused on the final, so we will see".

The Argentina striker bagged a goal in each half to cap a brilliant performance from Pep Guardiola's side, who look in fine shape ahead of next weekend's Premier League opener. "We don't have momentum because we didn't start, not yet", Guardiola said on Saturday.

City looked the stronger, more cohesive unit throughout.

"We would like to be more intense in the pressing, but it was impossible because the players were absolutely exhausted". We are trying to find maybe one more.

"Now we're set for the next one and prepare game by game and we'll arrive in April, May and June and it depends what we've done during the process".

In between there was a rare miss, with Aguero hitting the side-netting after rounding Chelsea keeper Willy Caballero, but make no mistake, City's goal machine is looking sharp and the golden boot will surely be in his sights.

Patience is a word you don't often associate with Chelsea, but it's the need of the hour at Stamford Bridge. The 23-year-old England worldwide scored 18 goals in 33 appearances and assisted 11 more for his team-mates.

But Guardiola says that the Community Shield match marks not a continuation of his team's historic 2017/2018 season - but a new beginning.

"No, it won't", said Guardiola.

Maurizio Sarri would have learnt a lot from his squad as they were unable to stop a Manchester City squad that continued right where they left off from last season. But he added that his team wants to win the match and take home the Shield, because "it's a final".

Then, in the second half, John Stones broke up a Chelsea attack in City territory before Gundogan drove a counter downfield and Silva played Aguero in again.

Conte was bizarrely forced to take the first week of pre-season training even though Sarri had already agreed to take his place as Blues boss, with the lack of clarity from the top of the club delaying Sarri's arrival at the club and damaging the club's pre-season plans.

Facing Pep Guardiola's record-breaking champions Manchester City is never easy, especially when you are without Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante. We were told to expect 'Sarri-ball, ' that Chelsea's new Italian coach would bring a brand of exciting, dynamic football to the Premier League. I am so happy for the players and it's good to start with one title by our side.
