Bills take low-risk gamble in acquiring Coleman from Browns

Grant SmithAug 07, 2018

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Coleman didn't fit in with Cleveland's locker room, which is why the Browns shipped him out for a cheap price tag. There are numerous reasons why this is the case, but near the top of the list is the franchise's utter inability to choose good players with their selections in the early portion of the draft, a place it often finds itself thanks to its previously mentioned badness.

It turns out the Browns did get a little more in return than just a 2020 7th-round pick from the Buffalo Bills for wideout Corey Coleman.

Coleman vaulted to the top of the 2016 National Football League draft due to an ultra-productive college career at Baylor that saw him win the Biletnikoff award his senior season.

For GM Brandon Beane it's the second time in just under a year in which he acquired a wide receiver who was a former first-round pick.

Buffalo sent quarterback Tyrod Taylor to the Browns in exchange for a third-round pick this offseason.

Coleman wasn't at practice Monday, but the team hopes to have him Tuesday.

Cleveland had eight first-round picks between 2012-2016.

Browns general manager John Dorsey told reporters two weeks ago the team had discussed signing Bryant, adding, "I know what kind of person he is and what makes him". Both Callaway and third-year wideout Rashard Higgins have looked quite impressive during training camp so far, which could have been one of the many reasons that the Browns made a decision to deal Coleman. The Browns acquired that pick when the Eagles traded up to draft quarterback Carson Wentz.
