Cleaning crews reportedly discovered a dead fetus in an American Airlines lavatory toilet on Tuesday at New York City's LaGuardia Airport, according to WNBC-TV.

The plane was in a hangar and had arrived in NY from Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday night.

"Absolutely disturbing", said one person at LaGuardia.

The plane was an Airbus A321, which can seat 220 passengers. It's estimated that the fetus was between five and six months old.

American Airlines also sent out an official statement, but offered no details about what had been found.

American Airlines said it would not impact the rest of their fleet. "This must be really shocking for them, a traumatic experience for them going forward".

American Airlines referred all questions surrounding the incident to local police. Recent reports indicate a fetus was found inside a plane bathroom Tuesday morning.

The Queens County District Attorney is looking into the matter.

"The OCME can confirm we're investigating what we believe to be a human fetus found deceased on an airplane".
