Osinbajo sacks DSS Boss, Lawal Daura

Howard TerryAug 08, 2018

Osinbajo, who is acting in place of President Muhammadu Buhari, who is now in London on a 10-day vacation, sacked Daura hours after some DSS operatives invaded the National Assembly complex on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris has absolved his men of blame from Tuesday's blockage of the National Assembly (NASS) by security operatives, saying that the development came to him as a surprise.

The National Assembly was on Tuesday morning barricaded by the operatives, temporarily preventing lawmakers and staff of the National Assembly from gaining access to their offices.

Before his new appointment, he was Daura's deputy, being the most senior director in the DSS.

Sequel to Daura's summary dismissal, Osinbajo approved the appointment of Mr. Matthew Seiyefa as the Acting DG of the DSS.

Similarly, two Lagos-based lawyers, Messrs Wahab Shittu and Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, hailed Osinbajo for his decisive action on the DSS invasion of the National Assembly complex.

Osinbajo is acting president for Muhammadu Buhari, who is out of the country on holiday.

Seiyefa enlisted into the Nigerian Security Organization (NSO) in 1984 after completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme at the School of Islamic and Legal Studies (SILS) Kano.

A Reuters witness said security agents, some of whom were masked, then allowed lawmakers to enter but continued to bar government agents and journalists.

It is not clear if the meeting scheduled for Tuesday afternoon will still hold after today's turn of events.

Seiyefa was shortly after Daura's sack, spotted in the Presidential Villa, where he had a meeting with Osinbajo.
