Parents jailed for selling son to Paedophiles

News agency dpa reported that the Freiburg state court in southwestern Germany sentenced the woman, who has been identified only as Berrin T.in line with German privacy rules, to 12 1/2 years in prison for rape, sexual abuse and forced prostitution.

The disturbing case sent shockwaves through the country as authorities were accused of failing to protect the boy.

A German couple have been jailed for selling their 9-year-old son to paedophiles for sex on the dark web.

A German couple was tossed behind bars for 12 years Tuesday for selling custom-made online videos of them sexually abusing their son.

Her husband Christian Lais, the boy's stepfather whom he called "papa", received a 12-year sentence followed by preventive detention. Some of the abuse was filmed. Among them: In March 2017 the boy was removed from the home after it was found he was living with Christian, who as a convicted pedophile could not have contact with children; the courts didn't speak with the boy but rather sided with his mother and returned him.

The couple was also ordered to pay a total of 42,500 euro (£38,000) in compensation to the boy and another victim, a young girl. It said the mother was aware from the start of the man's pedophile tendencies and previous conviction.

The pair and six others were arrested last fall.

The trial has also raised concerns that officials might sometimes wrongly presume that a woman is incapable of abusing her own child.

The mother was often near the scene of the abuse by other men "to exert a calming influence on her child", and in the case of one client participated herself, the court said.

Katja Ravat, the child's lawyer, said the mother had not shown remorse at any point during trial, adding that she "had hoped that [the defendant] would make a statement, issue a written apology to her child, or at least explains to him why she did it".
