Kepa Arrizabalaga writes letter to Athletic Bilbao after Chelsea move

Grant SmithAug 10, 2018

After a remarkable transfer from Chelsea to Real Madrid, Thibaut Courtois trained alongside his four other competitors only hours after his official press conference at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

"The fact that such a big club was already following me was like a dream come true".

There is no doubt that Courtois' actions over the last few days have left Chelsea fans fuming.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed to trigger the release clause of Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga ahead of his proposed switch to the club. This would be the second time it has been broken during this window after Liverpool won the race to sign Allison from Roma.

"The manager made me feel confident about playing here".

"Today is the day I leave my Athletic home, it is a day of mixed feelings to leave the club I joined as a nine-year-old, ” wrote Kepa".

Courtois went AWOL at Chelsea in a desperate attempt to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge.

In January, Kepa signed a new long-term contract with Athletic until 2025, amid interest from Real Madrid.

"The Spanish global goalkeeper arrives ahead of the new Premier League season, having signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge", Chelsea said in a statement.

"I know some of the players who are in the current Chelsea team because I played with them in the Spanish national team".

"In terms of being the most expensive keeper in the world, it's something I don't think about", Kepa said.

The Mirror are reporting that Real Madrid have identified Spurs playmaker Christian Eriksen as their prime transfer target before the transfer window slams shut for clubs outside of the Premier League later this month. The Belgium goalkeeper was the victor of the Golden Glove award at the Russian Federation 2018 Fifa World Cup. I didn't expect to play last night but I feel good.

"I hope I'll be able to adjust and adapt as soon as possible".
